After showing up to a meeting late, and covered in sweat because I couldn’t find parking, I knew there had to be a better way.

Define the Problem

In large, expanding metropolitan areas like Austin, parking is not often provided by the business, leaving the customer to find public parking that is often expensive, far away, or unavailable.

Project goal:

Users need to find parking, so the design of Spot needs to provide a quick and easy way to identify where parking is available.

Research

First, I decided to research if others are experiencing a similar issue and if the city had any additional information on its parking.
The Downtown Austin Alliance, who partnered with a transportation consulting firm, recently released a report highlighting key metrics on the issue.

Target Users

Being the capital of Texas, and home to one of its major universities, thousands of people commute to the Austin Metropolitan Area for work, college, or leisure.
